The Most Valuable Thing Learnt in Language Arts

Hello everyone again!

Today, i am going to talk about the most valuable thing i have learnt last year, during language arts lessons, which is "poetry".

Poetry was not a thing that was introduced to me when i was young. I have never been exposed to any type of poetry, and last year, i learnt all the basics about it.

I learnt that there are many types of poems, like haikus, which is common in Japan, sonnets, and free verse poems.

I also learnt many literary devices that brings out "hidden meanings" in poems, and also makes the poem livelier and more interesting and exciting at the same time. It is just like killing two birds with one stone! A few examples of the literary devices are personification, which is to give a non living object human characteristics, similes and metaphors, which is to compare different things, and bring out the similarities, and also, rhyme patterns, to make the poem more interesting etc.

The favourite part of poetry is the irony in its context. It can be used to bring out humour in the poem, eg. in the poem "Messy Room". Also, it can be used to bring out harsh realities of life, eg. in "Cloony The Clown", and many other things.

Irony is something that brings out something contradictory. For example, in the messy room, the speaker was criticizing the owner of the messy room, and in the end, he found out that it was actually him. This is how irony can make the poem really really hilarious. :D

Now, i will end this post, with my favourite poem:

Where the sidewalk ends-Shel Silverstein

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon bird rests from his flight,
To cool in the peppermint wind

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black,
And the dark street winds and bends
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow,
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow
And watch where the chalk white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow
And we'll go where the chalk white arrows go
For the children they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends

(: FANTASTIC POEM!!!

Thank you for your attention

Yours sincerely,
Mervin
