Hello everyone!
Today i am going to reflect on my performance for term 1, on what i am happy about, and what i am really really depressed of.
First, to start with the negative feelings. This year, my results so far, are really bad, as compared to last year. For example, for Chinese, i have consistently got an A2 for every term, last year. However, this term, i got an appalling C6. Another example would be infocom studies. It is suppose to be an easy A1 for everyone, and last year, i passed all tests with flying colours. However, this term, i got a straight B3. i am really, really disappointed with myself and i have been searching myself for an answer to why my grades are so lousy, and i managed to come up with some conclusions.
Firstly, recently, i have been playing computer games quite frequently. Under the influence of some people in class, i started playing this particular game called "Blackshot", a first person shooting game. Therefore, in my free time, after i finish my work, i would always go online, and play together with my friends, and thus, valuable revising time is cut short. I am really afraid i will be addicted to it, and thus, i would be uninstalling it, and only playing it during the holidays. I feel this is a major factor in making my grades drop, and i definitely will not let it get in my way.
Next, another factor would be my EP3. As the competitions are just round the corner, i have been really busy with training, which are held almost everyday, on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Furthermore, every morning, i have to report to training as well, before flag raising, and i have to wake up much earlier than usual. This makes me really drowsy and tired, and thus, i will not be able to concentrate in class, and will often snooze in class. However, i have found a solution to this, and that is to constantly participate in class, so as to keep me awake, and also, at the same time, i will be able to get good oral participation points. It is just like killing two birds with one stone!!
I hope i can really change on these bad habits, and also be able to juggle my EP3 and play time with my academic studies as well!
Next, on what i am happy about. Firstly, on math. Last year, my math was my best subject, and i often get really high marks, like 98, 97 etc. Furthermore, in term 2 last year, i managed to get an astonishing 100 marks for both tests in that term, and my parents were really proud of me. Also, this term, i an A1 again, and furthermore, was the highest in class! I am really happy, and feel really proud of myself.
Another thing that i am really happy about is that I have a really good grade for Science, and has the highest grade in class as well!Last year, even though i consistently got A1 in every term, they were all low A1s, and were not outstanding enough. However, this term, i managed to get 91.5 marks out of the full 100 marks, and i am really proud of that as well!
However, i vow that i will not be complacent, and will still work harder for the tests, and will set higher goals. Also, i will definitely buck up on the other two subjects that i had mentioned previously, and i am sure i will definitely score better the next term! ((:
Thank you for your kind attention!
Yours sincerely,
Mervin :D
PS (Do work hard as well, for those who did badly too! Do not be upset or anything, as this is just the beginning of yet another long, long year! (: )

A Picture (:
Hello everyone!
Today i am going to do on my LA Ace!

Four sentences (Exaggerated and figurative )
1) The light was dim, and the unusual peace and quiet of this area was not a merit, but instead, was something that i was frightened of.
2)With the wood rotting, and metal rusting, together with the creak with every step i took, it was really creepy, and i was near hysteria.
3) The flight of steps was a sense of enlightenment for me, as it signified that it was bedtime.
4) Having to walk up and down daily, for whatever reasons, i was getting tired of it, but actually, on the optimistic point of view, it can actually be an exercise, for someone my size. Fat and obese.
Figurative Language From Extracts
=>Boneshaker
The light was dim, and the sphere of light cast by the bulb only traveled a few feet in the coal black darkness. The unusual silence was deafening, and this was not a merit, but instead, was something that made my hair stand constantly, making me petrified. Antique gaslights flickered over the flight of steps, and that aggravated my current psychological state, pessimistic and paranoid. An avalanche of wild thoughts buried me, and a shiver went down my spine. I could sense that pandemonium was just an arm's length away, and i wanted to run. Run out of this house. Run for my dear life. However, i was not so sure if i can do so with my jelly like legs, and apparently not, as they were rooted and transfixed to the ground.

I took timid steps forward, and with every step i took, i somewhat regretted more and more. With the wood rotting, and metal rusting, together with the creaking, looking as though it will collapse with every step i took, it was really creepy, and i was near hysteria. Scenes of ghost movies and horror shows assailed my mind.
This time, i really wanted to chicken out, and i made the run.
Instrumental Music
Music that is used in horror films, bringing out the sense of impending doom etc.
That is about all.
Hope you enjoyed this post, as this post i find this really interesting and enriching as well, in terms of language wise and element wise.
Thank you!

LA Online Lesson
Hello everyone!
We chose Atticus as the person to analyse on. This is because in the book, he is a really elaborated on a lot, and chracterisation is also usually used on him, to elaborate and emphasise his personality.
Now, i would be elaborating on his personality, and composing a character sketch of Atticus.
Charater Sketch-Atticus
In short, Atticus is forgiving and wise. He has all the characteristics any wise man should have.
I would be further elaborating on why i feel that he has those characteristics.
Firstly, he is wise, as he was able to differentiate what is good and bad for his children, and was also able to judge people really well. An example would be when Mrs Dubose insults him, saying that he is a "Nigger Lover" etc, he judged her correctly, saying that she is an old woman, and thus, telling Scout and Jem to compromise with her, and not make her angry, and at the same time, not get angry because of her crude remarks as well. In the end, Mrs Dubose became grateful to Jem and Scout after their reading sessions with her, and rewarded them, just before she dies.
Next, he is really forgiving. Even though he is intolerant at times when Scout gets into a fight, or when Jem and Scout is disrespectful to their seniors and relatives. However, this is also for their own good, as he has to get the basic discipline etched in his children's minds, so that they will be well behaved children. This is also the stepping stones for a bright future, therefore Atticus wanted to make sure his children have it all right. However, despite being intolerant at times, Atticus is a really forgiving and tolerant person. For example, when Bob Ewell spat on him and insulted him deeply and tremendously, Atticus merely wiped the spit away, and stood there until Bob Ewell stopped his insults. Also, when people insulted him, calling him a nigger lover for helping Tom Robinson, he still let the matters pass, and even gave excuses for them for saying those crude remarks.
This are also the reasons why the people in Maycomb loved him so much, and always appreciated his pressence. Despite his polite and gentle personality, he is also the town's best shooter. Therefore, i can infer that he is talented in everything, just that he is humble and does not want to show his abilities in pride.
In conclusion, Atticus is compromising, gentle and polite man, and is appreciated for his efforts by everyone in Maycomb. He is indeed a true gentleman, and i am sure everyone respect him deeply for his contributions to the society of Maycomb.
Thank you!
Yours sincerely,
Mervin (:

Today i am going to talk about the LA online lesson! We have done a Google document on a character of "To Kill A Mockingbird", and found out evidence to support our points, regarding their tolerance levels. So, here it is!

All Summer Day Analysis
Hello everyone!
Now i am going to post about a small part of all summer long. Here is the question that is provided, and to be answered:
Identify who should be responsible for Margot's treatment, and why?
I feel that the person that caused Margot to be anti social and so "neglected", are the children themselves. Every one of the children in class were humiliating Margot very frequently, thus being responsible for Margot's treatment.
Even though William is the one that initiated to lock up Margot in the closet in the room near the tunnel, and is the one that keeps telling and chiding at Margot for being "stupid", thinking that the sun will come up, the other children are also at fault.
Not only did they not stop William for his atrocious and notorious acts, they stood by the side, laughing at William's cynical jokes, and adding salt into Margot's wound, aggravating her disappointment and sadness, that the sun did not come up.
Also, some of them joined in the "fun", and also echoed and parroted William's jokes and hurting phrases, making Margot feel really sad, as she knows that no one is on her side, and no one is there to support her and comfort her, psychologically or mentally.
The children's cheering and laughing are also signs of encouragement for William to continue bullying and making fun of Margot. If the children did not laugh at William's jokes, he definitely would not have continued with his jokes!
In a nutshell, the children are definitely at fault for Margot's harsh and bad treatment, despite William being the leader of this notorious "gang".
Now, going on to the next question:
What might you have chosen to do if you are one of the schoolmates, in order to achieve a positive outcome?
I definitely would not have added salt to the wound, and definitely would not have find happiness in other's misery.
I would have thought and considered what would the victim, which in this case is Margot, will feel, if the whole class goes against her, and mock her daily, and frequently. She will definitely feel sad, disheartened and depressed, as she will feel that it is only her, against the whole world.
Psychological effects and physical effects would also be inflicted in her mind, as people are constantly bullying her, in terms of Physical bullying (Locking Margot up in the closet), and also Verbal bullying (Insulting and mocking Margot). I will put myself in her shoes, and think of how i will feel if i were her, before doing anything stupid.
Last but not least, i will think twice, thrice or maybe a hundred times, before i do this kind of stupid and atrocious things, as this might affect the victim, for a short time, or maybe could have a lifelong effect on her, having those insults and scars etched in her mind forever, affecting her life.
Therefore, i will be there, on her side, telling her that at least there is someone there with her, to support and provide her a helping hand whenever she needs it. If she needs someone to talk to, i will be there to lend her a listening ear, and if she needs a shoulder to cry on, i will definitely allow her to do so as well.
I will also tell and try to persuade the rest of the class, especially William, to stop their bullying acts, as it is really immature, and it is a real big sin to pick on others, especially to find happiness in other's miseries. Also, i will focus more to persuade William, as once he is persuaded to stop bullying Margot, he will be able to influence the rest of the class, being the leader and head of all the bullying and notorious acts.
That all for now!
Best regards,
Mervin Lim :D:D

Online Lesson
Hello everyone!
Tomorrow is our home learning day, as the teachers have to attend a talk and meeting. Therefore, we have been assigned homework by each subject teacher, and now, i will be posting on my LA home learning homework, which is also considered as ace.
Our assignment is to create a comic online, and we need our innovation and creativity to come up with a good comic. My theme for the comic is "Racial Prejudice."
Here is my comic!(: (the second comic is a follow up of the first, while the last comic is just to encourage people to stop racial prejudice!)

The backgrounds i chose are all showing deserted roads and streets. This is because most of the robberies and crimes takes place on deserted roads and streets, where there are little people, thus, easy to rob the victim easily.
For the person that got robbed, i purposely made her speech very harsh and insulting to blacks, so as to bring out the fact that many people are discriminating blacks, and that they will associate almost everything bad that happened to blacks, as they are somewhat racist.
Also, i chose a character that looked really blur, so that it will bring out the thought to the viewers that he is very innocent, and is very astonished and shocked when the police confronted him. This gives the readers a feeling that he is being wrongly accused.
I chose a character that looks really arrogant and proud, as the policeman, just to show that the main culprits of racial discrimination and racial prejudice are the whites, against the Negroes. Also, i wanted to bring out the fact that even if it is a policeman, he can have a really bad character and attitude as well. Being a policeman just allows them to go around bullying the people they don't like, which in this case, is that Negroes.
For the last person, who is the real culprit of the robbery, i chose a very sly and cunning looking character to show that he has lots of tricks under his sleeve, which includes, sabotaging the innocent negro on the street, and not owning up even when the Negro's life is almost taken.
I have also added some speech for each character to show their personalities and characteristics as well.
The narrative devices i have used is personification. For example, the policeman called the Negro a filthy animal, as the policeman, himself, who supposedly, is full of justice and righteousness, is discriminating the Negro as well. Thus, there is irony in my comic as well! (: It is also to show that the police is haughty, arrogant and proud, which i mentioned previously.
I also used onomatopoeia. I used the word "BANG" three times, to emphasize that the policeman really went for the kill, shooting 3 bullets, and not just 1. This also proves my proves my previous point, which is that the policeman wanted to kill the Negro right from the start, and is just using the robbery that just occurred as an excuse.
That is about all to it!(:
I have also created a comic to further encourage people not to be prejudice to other races, and not to discriminate everyone, so that the world can become a much more peaceful and conducive place to live in!(:

Hope you enjoyed my comics!
Best regards,
Mervin Lim

Reflective Thinking
Hello everyone,
today i will be answering a question that really brings out some harsh reality in the society.
Here is the question:
Have you ever been part of a group of people who were unkind to one or some individuals? What was the circumstances? How did you act? What did you feel?
Yes, i have definitely been in such a situation before. It was present in the class last year, even in such a high class, and world class institution. (people shall not be named, so that they would not be degraded.)
In class, there are many people, going against one individual, just because he had a different personality, and different habits, as compared to the class. However, this was not a reason for any of us to start mocking him, and calling him names like "dog".
I shall name the victim of this matter, person A.
At first, it was just one person, bullying person A, but he influenced many others, and soon, the whole class hated him, and started making fun of person A. At first, he just laughed together with us, thinking that it was the usual harmless nicknames that everyone gives him. But soon, he found out that him being called "dog" is not just any harmless thing, and started feeling hurt.
Seeing that people are bullying him, i did not stop the class from mocking him, but instead, became a sinner, together with them. I joined in the "fun", and found happiness, when person A was feeling demoralised and deeply hurt.
I feel really really guilty now, and thinking about it back then, i really should have thought twice, thrice or maybe 10 times, before i joined in.
Even though i may not be of any help, and may not have any power, then, to stop the class from their unacceptable and notorious acts, i could have at least, not join in, and at least let person A know that at least he has some of his friends together with him, on his side. However, instead of doing so, i joined in!
I simply cant imagine why i did that, and i certainly did not think of how the other party will feel. I did not think of the psychological and mental, negative impact that would be inflicted into person A's mind. Furthermore, this negative memory would be etched in his minds, like a tattoo, hard to forget. Thus, this would become a lifelong impact on him as well.
At first, person A did not want to raise this matter to the adults. However, when the whole class didnt stop mocking him, he really could not take it anymore, and he complained to the teacher and his parents. He only named 4 "more major" culprits, and not the whole class. However, i am very sure that everyone, then, including me, had the guilt in our hearts, but not the courage to own up as well. The major culprits were sent to see the discipline master, Mr Sung Kah Kee, and were given 3 demerit points each, with CWOs needed to complete as well.
If i could go back on time, i would definitely have done otherwise, and tried to persuade my classmates to stop whatever childish and unacceptable actions straight away.
I really am sincerely sorry, and would like to apologise profusely to him. I know it may seem like just any kind of apology, but this is really from the bottom of my heart, and i hope that person A can forgive me! D:
Yours sincerely,
Mervin Lim
Ps.Stop bullying!!! :@
