Poem to Identify

Hello people!:P

Now i will be talking about which poem i identify the most. I feel that out of the three posts, "The little boy and the old man", "messy room" and "cloony the clown", i feel that cloony the clown has the best meaning behind it.

Shel Silverstein used a really interesting way of raising the awareness of a harsh reality among the readers. And that reality is that there are many people in society that likes to pick on people, and laugh at people. In short, they find happiness in others' miseries.

Shel Silverstein used irony to relay the message that cloony is also laughed at when he tells his "dark soul" to others, and is not laughed at when he performs tricks like swallowing ties etc. This serves as evidence for my previous point as well.

He also used many literal devices as well, such as personification. There is also a rhyming pattern to make the poem more interesting when read out. An example of the personification used is that cloony talked about "rain and pain", and the "darkness of his soul". This also helps to exaggerate that cloony is talking about something really sad, while other people are laughing away at it. This point also links to irony, which i pointed out in the previous paragraph.

Now, i will list out some examples of those people that find happiness in others' miseries.

Bullies. A common thing that everyone sees in school frequently. They see your weak points, and the things that you are "unique" in. They will pick on you starting from those points. That is not it. They will gather people with him, and will bully you in a "gang". Soon, the news will spread. The whole level will know you as for example, a nerd. Psychological effects will start taking over you, and soon, you will find yourself crying and sobbing. Worst case scenario, you will find yourself taking your own life.

This is the effect that bullying can cause on the victim. That is why i call it a "harsh reality" that Shel Silverstein want to portray from composing this poem.

That is all for now!(:

Bye(((:

Yours sincerely,
Mervin :P

STOP BULLYING AND STOP LAUGHING AT OTHERS' MISERIES!
